After the defeats to Chris Weidman and the fracture in his left leg in December last year, Anderson Silva he had already declared several times that he would never fight for the belt again. However, the former champion's speech has changed drastically and he is already starting to plan his path towards the top of the middleweight category again. Spider even said that he won't retire without at least trying to win the belt again.

“Look, besides coming back well in 2015, my project in the UFC is one and the same: until I get the belt back, I won't stop. I want to at least try”, said Anderson, in an interview with the website of Veja magazine. “My main objective now is to come back well and put on a great fight against Nick Diaz. I am very happy and confident in my recovery, and the joy of being able to return is at the forefront, as overcoming this is my biggest goal”, he added.

Furthermore, despite already approaching 40 years of age, Spider said he does not see age as an obstacle to achieving his goals. “I feel like a more complete athlete. Martial art is a lesson in life, and this applies both inside and outside the octagon. Of course you feel your age, that's normal. But staying focused and doing everything right, such as training, eating well, following your diet and focusing exclusively for four months on preparing for the fight are things that give me peace of mind and confidence”, he commented.

At 39, Anderson Silva has a professional record of 33 wins and six losses. Former middleweight champion and record holder for the number of consecutive title defenses in Ultimate, Anderson was defeated twice in 2013 by the current title holder Chris Weidman. In the second of these, in December, Spider seriously fractured his leg. Recovered, he will now return to the octagon on January 31, in the main fight of UFC 183, against the American Nick Diaz.
