Conor McGregor has an important commitment ahead of him this Saturday (27), when he will face Dustin poirier on the main card of UFC 178, in Las Vegas (USA). However, the Irishman is already looking ahead and guarantees that he would be prepared to fight at UFC 179, in Rio de Janeiro, which will have as its main fight the fight between José Aldo e Chad Mendes, valid for the featherweight division belt.
“Notorious” stated that he would make himself available if one of the athletes in the main fight of the night were unable to fight. “You're right, I would be ready. In fact, I'm going to travel to Brazil. And, not only that, I will enter the Octagon if I need to. Who knows? I might put some banana peels at the weigh-in area and wait for someone to fall”, joked the Irishman, in a press conference reproduced by the North American website “MMA Weekly”.
McGregor stated that he sees weaknesses in the training of Aldo's team, Nova União, in light of recent events involving some of its main fighters. “The victory of TJ Dillashaw about [Renan] Barão changed things. Then there's the fact that Barão didn't make weight [for his rematch with Dillashaw at UFC 177], so there are definitely problems with their training. They keep complaining about money, etc. Furthermore, there are injuries all the time. I feel a weakness in the mental aspect of these people”, he assessed.
Undefeated in the UFC, McGregor currently occupies ninth place in the official featherweight division rankings. Poirier, his next opponent, is fifth.
