After recovering from a serious knee injury, Ronys Torres was scheduled to debut in Ultimate on September 16th, against Jeremy Stephens, at UFC Fight Night 19, but a new injury postponed, once again, the Amazonian's debut.
The Nova União black belt suffered a dislocated retina during training that forced him to undergo surgery, postponing the fight. Ronys commented as exclusive to the site SUPER FIGHTS the new injury.
“I was training very well with all the videos of my opponent, but I started to see some rays in my vision, like a figure. I went to the doctor and he couldn't find anything, until the second time I went back there, I was referred to a retina specialist, who informed me that I should have surgery”, said the fighter, who intended to undergo surgical treatment before his debut.
“I wanted to operate only after the fight, but the doctor and Dedé (Pederneiras) convinced me to operate, as the Athletic Commission carries out exams before the fight and they would not release me to fight”, said Ronys, who underwent surgery last night , in Rio de Janeiro.
“I had surgery yesterday (Wednesday), at 22 pm and I'm already at home, now I intend to go to my city to rest, I feel empty and only family can heal this, but God is in charge and the best is in store”, concluded the fighter.
With Ronys injured, his replacement on the card should be the American Justin buchholz
