Ronaldo Jacare is getting closer and closer to fighting for the middleweight belt. Undefeated since debuting in Ultimate, Jacaré achieved his fourth consecutive triumph in the biggest MMA organization on the planet this Friday (05), submitting the Armenian-Dutch Gegard Mousasi in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 50. Furthermore, the Brazilian took revenge for the defeat he suffered against Mousasi in 2008, at the Japanese event DREAM.

In the first round, after a few minutes of hard study, Jacaré finally managed to take the fight to the ground and completely dominated the partial. The moment of greatest tension for the Espírito Santo was when Mousasi tried to hit him with some pedal strokes, the same way he had won the first meeting between them. With a good defense of the Armenian-Dutch's attack, Ronaldo was once again superior in the ground game until the end of the round.

Jacaré came back even more excited in the second round and took control of the action in the stand-up fight as well. After some blows that shook Mousasi's structure, the Brazilian took down his rival again and was very close to achieving the submission. But the fight would only come to an end in the next round.

With a start very similar to the previous rounds, Jacaré once again dominated his striking, but preferred to take Mousasi to the ground, where he took advantage of his rival's fatigue to capitalize more than in previous attempts. Taking advantage of an oversight by the Armenian-Dutch, the Brazilian landed a very fair guillotine choke and just waited for his rival to give up.

After the triumph, still in the octagon, Jacaré “Anyone who doubts that I deserve a title fight is completely wrong. I caught one of the toughest guys in the division. Lyoto fought this guy (Mousasi) for five rounds and I managed to catch him in the third. Was difficult. I was lucky too, but the champion is also lucky. I’m the next one to fight for the belt, without a doubt,” he declared.

Overeem shows defensive fragility again and loses to Rothwell

Alistair Overem is recognized as one of the athletes with the greatest offensive power, but the least resistance to opponent attacks in the UFC. And once again the English-Dutch proved that, even at 37 years old, he needs to improve his defensive game a lot. After a strong start, with hard attacks against Ben Rothwell, Overeem ended up being knocked out in the first round.

While Rothwell absorbed “The Reem’s” blows well, the former champion of the now-defunct Strikeforce went to the canvas in his opponent’s first few shots. With yet another setback, Overeem now has three defeats and two wins as an Ultimate athlete and is expected to lose positions in the heavyweight rankings – where he currently occupies seventh place.

In a busy fight, Lauzon beats Chiesa by medical interruption

In one of the most exciting fights of the night, the veteran of The Ultimate Fighter Joe lauzon won Michael chiesa due to medical interruption. With several opportunities for both athletes throughout the fight, marked both by clashes in striking and by the display of technique on the ground, Lauzon caught his opponent in a tight clinch and opened a deep cut on Chiesa's eyebrow with a well-aimed knee. Not even the defeated Michael complained about the doctors' decision in his interview after the duel. With the triumph, “J-Lau” became the fighter with the most victories by knockout or submission in the lightweight division.
