Barão loses position to Ronda in the UFC rankings, but remains first in bantamweight

Even though he was cut from UFC 177 and lost his number one contendership, the Brazilian is still the best-ranked athlete at 61,2 kg

The last-minute departure from the UFC 177 card brought losses to Renan Barao in the official UFC rankings. In the most recent update of the list, Renan ended up being surpassed by Ronda Rousey in the weight-for-weight classification (regardless of the divisions) and is now in ninth place. Despite the fall, Barão remains the second best ranked athlete without a belt, behind only his compatriot Anderson Silva – which appears in seventh place.

But if in general the departure from last Saturday's event (30) brought losses to Barão, in the up to 61,2 kg division the Brazilian's position did not change. Even though he lost his title challenger status, according to a statement from president Dana White, Renan remains in first place in the category classification. It is worth remembering that the order of fighters is defined after voting by accredited journalists around the world, and not by members of the Ultimate organization.

Unlike Barão, the one who rose in the ranking was the Brazilian Beth Pitbull, who beat Shayna Baszler on the main card of UFC 177. However, the rise of the Paraíba native ended up falling short of the expectations generated by her triumph and the series of challenges to the champion Ronda Rousey. In the new version of the women's bantamweight classification, Bethe jumped from tenth to ninth position. To reach his new position, Pitbull left his compatriot behind Jessica Stacker, which has a fight scheduled against Larissa pacheco for next September 13th, in Brasília (DF)
