alistair overeem classified the move that resulted in the injury of Jon Jones, last month, as a “freak accident”, and said that no one should be held responsible for what happened.

On August 11, Overeem and Jones were training at Jackson's MMA gym in Albuquerque (USA), when the light heavyweight champion injured his knee and ankle during a wrestling session. As a result, Jones had to postpone his fight against Daniel Cormier, which would take place on September 27th, and undergo surgery to correct the injury.

“This was one of those freak accidents during a fall. I was looking forward to the fight. Everyone was looking forward to the fight. Jon Jones I was anxious. Accidents happen. It wasn't anyone's fault. Why was he training with me? We are at the same gym. We are teammates, we have lunch and we walk around together”, explained Overeem, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

Jones will face Cormier on January 3, at UFC 182; Overeem returns to action next Saturday (5), when he will face Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 50.
