Barão was in the bathtub in the middle of the weight cutting process and felt bad. When trying to get up, the potiguar felt dizzy and fell. Renan even hit his head and momentarily lost consciousness before being taken to the hospital. In addition to the head injury and the concern about his condition after the incident, the fact that he received intravenous serum during treatment would also make it impossible for the Brazilian to cut the necessary weight.

This is the second cut of a UFC 177 athlete due to problems with weight cutting this Friday (29). Earlier, the North American Henry Cejudo He also did not react well to the process and ended up being removed from the program. Cejudo was scheduled to face Scott Jorgensen on the preliminary card, but the fight was cancelled.

Barão's replacement comes from the preliminary card

to the place of Renan Barao, the UFC acted quickly and selected another bantamweight on the same card: Joe Soto. The former Bellator champion would make his Octagon debut this Saturday against Anthony Birchak on the preliminary card, but was promoted to challenger status just hours before the official weigh-in. As a result, the night's schedule now only has eight fights.

The medical problems with Cejudo and Barão were just the latest chapter in the troubled history of UFC 177. The event underwent several changes to its card, including the change of the former co-main event between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso for UFC 178, and an event that ended up being cancelled, UFC 176 – which would have José Aldo x Chad Mendes as the main fight.
