Around Lyoto Machida after the defeat to Chirs Weidman in the middleweight title fight in July, it should happen at home. UFC president Dana White revealed, in an interview with the organization's official website, that he plans to promote a fight between Lyoto and the American Luke Rockhold on Brazilian soil.
“We are watching Rockhold x Machida in Brazil. That’s what we’re observing,” said Dana, who also commented on the speculated fight between Rockhold and the Englishman Michael Bisping. "Everything is possible. Michael Bisping is ranked number eight in the world. Rockhold is number five. They will meet eventually anyway, but Rockhold has Machida first”, he assured.
If the duel is confirmed, Lyoto and Rockhold have two events on the UFC's 2014 calendar to face each other: on November 8th, in a card that should take place in the city of Uberlândia (MG), or on December 20th, in event that is speculated for the city of Barueri (SP).
At 36, Lyoto Machida has a professional record of 21 wins and five losses. Former holder of the light heavyweight belt, Lyoto moved down to middleweight last year and already fought for the title in the new division, being defeated by the champion Chris Weidman. Already Luke Rockhold, 29 years old, has a record of 12 wins and two losses. The former Strikeforce champion is coming off victories over Costas Philippou and Tim Boetsch.
