Fights between training partners have always been taboo in the world of MMA. The issue has already broken friendships and created fights, like what happened between Rashad evans e Jon Jones, being that Anderson Silva has already expressed his desire to never have to face his colleague Lyoto Machida in the octagon. And the UFC is close to marrying a fight between two fighters who represent the same flag.
The organization's president, Dana White, stated that he is negotiating a fight between the welterweights Hector Lombard e Tyron woodley, American Top Team athletes. However, Lombard often trains at the Coconut Creek, Florida headquarters, while Woodley does much of his training at ATT Evolution in Rock Hill, Missouri.
According to White, Lombard has already accepted the fight, and the only thing missing is a positive response from Woodley to close the fight. “The strange thing is that Woodley challenged Matt Brown, who is below him in the rankings. But we want to do Tyron woodley x Hector Lombard. Hector said yes, we're just waiting to hear back from Woodley. Lombard said he would fight him without any problems,” said the UFC president, in an interview with the organization’s official website.
Lombard is coming off a victory over Jake Shields in March, by unanimous decision, while Woodley defeated Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Macau, last Saturday (23).
