A duel between two of the biggest names in the history of the MMA heavyweight category may be shaping up, but in grapple. During an interview, the former champion and member of Hall of Fame UFC fighter Randy Couture expressed his interest in facing the legendary Fedor Emelianenko, champion of the extinct PRIDE, in a fight at the submission Metamoris, as he had heard rumors that the duel would be in the promotion's plans.
“It would be something very interesting, and if we were given the time necessary to prepare physically and technically for both wrestling and jiu-jitsu and sambo, I think it would be a lot of fun. I don’t know if Fedor is training or if he is completely retired from fighting, but I am in no way opposed to the idea of facing him at Metamoris,” Couture told “Submission Radio.”
At 51 years old, Randy Couture retired from MMA with a professional record of 19 wins and 11 losses. “The Natural”, as it is known, is still today, alongside B.J. Penn, one of two fighters in UFC history to win belts in two different weight categories. Already Fedor Emelianenko, 37 years old, ended his career with a record of 34 wins, four losses and one fight without result. PRIDE heavyweight and GP heavyweight champion, Fedor hung up his gloves in June 2012, shortly after beating Brazilian Pedro Rizzo in the Russian M-1 Global event.
