The publication also gave details of the moment of capture, reporting that the fighter was found eating pizza in his hotel room and carrying only a small amount of money.

Shortly after War Machine's arrest, the Simi Valley Police Department released an official statement on its website:

PUBLICITY:

The United States Marshal's Office requested assistance from the Simi Valley Police Department to arrest Jonathan “War Machine Koppenahver on 15/08/2014 at approximately 13:45 pm (local time).

Federal agents had an arrest warrant for Koppenhaver stemming from an incident in Las Vegas (Nevada) last week. Koppenhaver was a resident of Simi Valley and federal investigations indicated he was possibly in the city.

Further investigation revealed that he was staying at the “Hotel Extended Stay America” located at 2498 Stearns Street in Simi Valley. Simi Valley officers alongside federal agents located his room and arrested him without incident.

Inside the room was a small amount of money and a pizza. Federal agents took Mr. Koppenhaver to the Simi Valley Police Department to file his Nevada warrant. He was transported to the Ventura County Jail.

All other questions should be directed to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or the US Marshal's. The Simi Valley Police Department is providing this release as notification of the incident and no longer has any investigative role in the criminal investigation.

Case was not the only recent case of domestic violence in MMA

Unfortunately, the case of War Machine and Christy Mack was not the only one that occurred in the last week in which MMA athletes committed acts of violence against their spouses. In less than five days, former fighter Josh Grispi, who came very close to challenging José Aldo for the UFC featherweight belt, he was arrested twice for assaults on his wife, which included ordering his pitbull dog to attack the woman.
