The series “Breaking Bad” is one of the greatest landmarks on TV in the United States and entered the record books for being the series best rated by critics of all time. But not even the cult saga of Walter White/Heisenberg was left out of fans' jokes after the fight between Jon Jones e Daniel Cormier, during a promotional event held last Monday (04). A video released on the internet, titled “Breaking Sholler”, parodies the incident between the UFC champion and his challenger using the acclaimed series as a backdrop.
The title of the video references UFC public relations director Dave Sholler, who was one of the main characters in last Monday's fight – after, of course, Jones and Cormier. Trying to avoid friction, Sholler put himself in the middle of the pair, but was pushed by the champion and fell onto the modular panel that printed the Ultimate logo and that of its sponsors.
In the video montage, images of the fight are shown on a TV and are watched by Hank Schrader (played by Dean Norris), a police officer in the narcotics division and brother-in-law of Walter White, and his wife Marie (played by Betsy Brandt). When they see the scenes, they remain in disbelief looking at the screen, while the confusion is repeated over and over again.
The scene used from “Breaking Bad” is a meme famous on the internet, and already used to satirize other controversial moments (such as Miley Cyrus' bold participation at the 2013 VMAs, the “Red Wedding” from the series “Game of Thrones” or even the program “The Price is Right”). The excerpt is part of the 11th episode of the fifth and final season of the series, called “Confessions”. On the internet, the satire is known as “Hank and Marie watch…”.
