UFC 175, held on July 6th, was the most successful event in terms of sales. pay-per-view in the United States, reaching a number of packages between 500 thousand and 545 thousand, according to data released by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
The attraction, in Las Vegas, in the United States, featured two title fights. Chris Weidman derrotou Lyoto Machida to retain the middleweight title, while Ronda Rousey dispatched Alexis Davis and continued with the belt in the women's bantamweight category.
This is the highest number achieved since UFC 168, in December 2013, which also featured Weidman and Rousey. On that occasion, the middleweight champion beat Anderson Silva in the long-awaited rematch, while the Olympic judo medalist defeated, also for the second time, her arch-rival Miesha Tate. The attraction generated around one million packages sold.
The numbers from UFC 175 remain a consolation for the organization, which had been suffering from low sales in 2014. None of the six events held so far had reached 500 packages (check numbers below).
The absolute record continues with the historic UFC 100, which featured two of the biggest stars in the organization's history: Brock Lesnar (who defeated Frank mir) to Georges St Pierre (which hit Thiago Pitbull). In July 2009, the event reached an incredible 1,6 million sales.
Only numbered events are sold in pay-per-view in the United States, as the other attractions are broadcast on open or cable TV in the country. Ultimate is expected to hold five more events in this format in 2014: Renan Barao x TJ Dillashaw 2, Jon Jones x Daniel Cormier, José Aldo x Chad Mendes 2, Cain Velazquez x Fabricio Werdum e Chris Weidman x Vitor belfort.
