Retired, Fedor says he would face Cain Velasquez in a return to MMA

Fighter, who remained undefeated for more than a decade, hung up his gloves in 2012

The Russian Fedor Emelianenko He is considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight of all time and left the sport in 2012, when he knocked out Brazilian Pedro Rizzo. However, the 'Last Emperor', as he is known, revealed who would be the opponent he would like to face in a possible return to competition: Cain Velazquez.

“He (Velasquez) has some technical difficulties, but he is ambitious and fearless. His will to win and his physical form are impressive. Cain is a cerebral fighter,” said Fedor, who is in Canada to promote an organization owned by his manager. The Russian also revealed that, even though he is retired, he still maintains his training routine.

“I still train, but I don’t miss anything. A real athlete never stops training, even if they no longer participate in competitions. It's a lifestyle. We keep fit just for pleasure. Plus, there are a lot of kids who would like to challenge me, so I have to stay prepared because I don't want that to happen. It is very important that a fighter trains more than everyone else. Being a professional MMA requires a lot of effort. You can't be afraid, and you have to go after your target. It is essential that you transform all your negatives into positives, and your weaknesses into strengths”, he concluded.

PRIDE heavyweight champion for a long time, Fedor Emelianenko made history in the past decade. He went almost ten years without losing, during a period in which he beat names like Rodrigo Minotauro (twice), Mirko Cro Cop, Mark Coleman, Heath Herring, Semmy Schilt, Mark Hunt e Andrei Arlovski. The defeat only came in June 2010, when he was finished by Fabricio Werdum. Afterwards, he lost two more fights: to Antonio Pezão e Dan Henderson.
