Family support is usually highlighted as one of the main factors that motivate high-performance athletes to continue their careers and overcome difficult times. But in case Anderson Silva, things happened a little differently. With his return to the octagon confirmed for January 31, 2015, when he faces Nick Diaz, Anderson revealed that his decision created an impasse at home, as the family does not agree with his return.

“My family didn’t want me to go back. They are not happy about it. They understand how I feel and what I like to do. But because of them I wouldn’t be back”, said Spider, in an excerpt from a press conference reproduced by the “Terra” portal this Friday (01). “I don’t think any family wants to see their child in a war. And after the accident I suffered, mine would be no different,” he added.

Spider also took the opportunity to comment on how he feels after surgery on his left leg and whether he is thinking about removing the titanium plate that was placed in the area during the procedure. “No (I’m afraid of kicking). It was an accident at work and now it's time to go back as usual, train and do what I like. It doesn't bother me (the titanium plate), but before this fight there's no chance of removing it. In fact, there are some people who take it off, but if it doesn’t bother you, you don’t need to take it off,” he said.

On 28 December 2013, Anderson Silva suffered a serious fracture to his left leg during his rematch against Chris Weidman. After spending the first half of this year in the recovery phase, Spider was confirmed as the protagonist of the main fight of UFC 183, on January 31, 2015. At the event in Las Vegas (USA), Anderson faces the North American Nick Diaz, who also returns to Ultimate after almost two years of retirement.
