Glover Teixeira is another addition to the UFC 179 card, which will take place on October 25th in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). This Friday (1st), the Minas Gerais native confirmed that he will face Phil Davis at the Maracanãzinho gymnasium, in the fight that will be his first since he lost to Jon Jones in the light heavyweight title fight.

“My manager called me confirming the fight at Maracanãzinho”, celebrated Glover, in an interview with the website “Portal do Vale Tudo”. This will be his second fight in Rio de Janeiro for the UFC, as he defeated Fabio Maldonado in October 2012 at the Barra da Tijuca arena.

“It will be great to fight in Brazil again, in Rio de Janeiro. I'm very happy, training a lot. Fight with the Phil Davis It's going to be very good – he's already a well-known guy in Brazil, as he faced some Brazilians and won. Now is the time to prove myself and start climbing the stairs again. I'm going to train a lot and fall in. Next year I want to fight for this belt again”, added the 35-year-old Brazilian.

In April, Teixeira lost an unbeaten streak that lasted nine years in MMA. After winning five fights in a row in the UFC, he had the chance to fight for the title against Jones, who dominated the five rounds of the fight and won by decision.

Davis, in turn, fought twice in Rio de Janeiro, defeating Brazilians Wagner Caldeirão (2012) and Lyoto Machida (2013). In his last appearance, however, he suffered defeat to Anthony Johnson at the same event where Glover challenged Jones.

The main fight of UFC 179, confirmed last week by Dana White, will be a featherweight title fight between the champion, José Aldo, and Chad Mendes. The fight will be a rematch of the fight held in 2012, also in Rio de Janeiro, in which the Brazilian won by knockout.
