After months and months of uncertainty about his future in the UFC, Nick Diaz finally got what he wanted. The North American, who said he wanted big fights for his career, managed to close a deal to face one of the biggest names in MMA history, Anderson Silva, with the duel already official for January 31st.

With the confirmation of the fight, Diaz explained that he did not return to the octagon before as he was not interested in the proposals made by the UFC. “They were offering me some fights that I wasn’t interested in. They stayed talking to me for practically the entire year. So, I went about other things in life. Now we can sit and talk. I was looking for the biggest fight I could get, as always. That’s what I’ve been doing since I arrived at the UFC”, said the American, in a conference call this Wednesday (30).

However, Diaz refused to say that he is excited for the fight, as that is not the approach he has towards his professional commitments. “I don't like fighting. I don't use the word 'excitement' in this sport. I use this word when I'm hungry and food is coming. This is excitement. Or when I get excited about taking a few days off,” he commented. “I don’t recommend anyone to be a fighter. Fighting is not something I enjoy doing, it is something I feel I have to do.”
