Now it's official! José Aldo will defend the featherweight belt against Chad Mendes in Brazil. UFC president, Dana White, confirmed that the rematch will take place on Brazilian soil as the main attraction of UFC 179, scheduled for October 25th, apparently at the Rio de Janeiro.

“This is the fight. I'll probably get murdered over the phone. Brazil will kill me. But that's it, this is the fight,” said White, noting that the main fight of the show should not yet be announced.
The fight between José Aldo e Chad Mendes would take place at UFC 176, on August 2, in Los Angeles. However, the Brazilian was injured during training and withdrew from the fight. As a result, the entire event was cancelled, something that has only happened twice in the organization. The postponement of the fight caused anger in Mendes, who even claimed that Aldo had simulated the injury to fight at home once again.

Aldo and Mendes faced each other for the first time at UFC 147, in January 2012, at a show also held in Rio de Janeiro. At the event, the Brazilian scored a knockout at the end of the first round and celebrated by leaving the octagon by jumping into the arms of the fans.
