At the beginning of the week, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr drew attention when he said he didn't know who he was Ronda Rousey, the UFC champion in the women's bantamweight division. The North American, in fact, I didn't even know she was a woman. A few days later, the highest paid athlete in the world changed his speech and apologized to the fighter for his statements.

The two fighters participated in the 2014 ESPY Awards, organized by the North American broadcaster “ESPN”. Mayweather received the “Best Fighter” award, while the UFC champion was the winner in the “Best Female Athlete” category.

“I wanted to congratulate her because I didn't know who she was until the other day. I apologize because I didn’t know,” said Mayweather, in an interview with the YouTube channel “Fight Hub”.

The fighter explained why he didn't know Ronda. “I'm used to watching basketball and football. I'm not that into fights. When they say to me 'Floyd, you need to see a fighter', then I say 'well, let me see him'”, he said.

Currently 37 years old, Mayweather has already established himself as one of the greats in boxing history, being undefeated in the sport after 46 fights.
