Eight days after suffering a stroke, former world boxing champion and current MMA athlete Duda Yankovich has already returned to training at Team Nogueira in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The Serbian-Brazilian felt unwell at the gym last week, but was quickly taken to the hospital by Rodrigo Minotauro, which avoided possible sequelae and accelerated his recovery process.
Yankovich admitted to being scared by what happened, but celebrated the positive outcome of the story. "It's good to be back. I was scared, but everything was done at the right time. We are subject to this. It happens. It was good that this happened within the gym and we had people who knew it was a stroke, giving me the assistance I needed. Now, I’m fine”, said the fighter, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
The athlete has not yet returned to MMA training, but is already authorized to do lighter exercises. “I'm free to do normal activities, but I can't train with impact yet. I can't train boxing or Muay Thai, but I'm free to do technical training and work out. I will continue doing my normal activities and nothing will stop me,” she detailed.
At 37 years old, Duda stated that he will investigate the possible causes of the stroke. “You can’t predict a stroke. This can happen to anyone. We will do more tests to find out what really happened, because it is not common for a stroke to happen to young people. It just happened,” she commented.
Born in Serbia, but naturalized Brazilian, Yankovich has a record of one win and three losses in professional MMA, where she started competing after leaving boxing. She also became known when she participated, in 2011, in the reality show “A Fazenda”, from which she was expelled after attacking another participant.
