The year 2014 could not be better for Donald Cerrone. Debted, the American declared that he would like to fight five times by December to balance his finances and is already very close to the mark, with three fights and three victories. His most recent triumph came this Wednesday (16), when he knocked out Jim Miller with a relentless high kick in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 45. The triumph earned Cerrone a challenge from one of the top names in the lightweight division: the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Shall we (fight), Cowboy Cerrone? I’m ready!” Khabib posted on his official profile on Twitter as soon as the fighting in Atlantic City (USA) ended. Soon after, the Russian released a montage with an image of him and another of Cerrone, with just a thumbs up and a question mark as a caption. Nurmagomedov's idea was endorsed by his training partners at the AKA gym, especially the light heavyweight Daniel Cormier – who, in addition to working for the UFC, also works on the organization's official programs on North American TV.
At 25, Khabib Nurmagomedov has an undefeated professional record of 22 victories. The Russian, of Dagestani origin, has six victories as an Ultimate athlete and currently occupies fourth place in the organization's official lightweight ranking. Already Donald Cerrone, 31 years old, has a record of 24 wins, six losses and one fight without result. With his triumph at UFC Fight Night 45, the former WEC title challenger extended his undefeated streak to four consecutive victories.
