Performing for the eighth time in Ultimate, the lightweight Francisco Massaranduba is preparing to fight at home for the first time in the biggest MMA organization on the planet. massaranduba – who was born in Piauí and lives in Brasília, where he trains – was scheduled to face the North American Efrain Escudero at UFC Fight Night 51, which takes place in the federal capital.
The duel was publicized by the North American website “MMA Fighting”, which confirmed Escudero's presence in the fight just one day after he signed a contract with the “Titan FC” event. According to Titan president Lex McMahon, there is a clause that releases athletes if they sign with the UFC, as was the case with the North American – who had recently left the organization.
For Francisco Massaranduba, whose professional record is 14-4, the fight in Brasília is the chance to recover from the defeat to Michael chiesa at UFC 173, on May 23rd. The setback was the third of massaranduba, who participated in TUF Brasil 1, as an Ultimate athlete, against four victories – over Delson Pé de Chumbo, CJ Keith, Mike Rio and Jesse Ronson.
UFC Fight Night 51 takes place on September 13th, at Ginásio Nilson Nelson, in Brasília (DF). In the main fight of the night, heavyweight Antonio Pezão faces the Belarusian Andrei Arlovski. The fight is a rematch of a duel already held in the now defunct Strikeforce, and won by Pezão in a unanimous decision by the judges.
