The rivalry between José Aldo e Chad Mendes finally caught fire. After the recent criticism made by the North American towards the Brazilian, the UFC featherweight champion responded accordingly, promising that he will defeat his rival again.

Aldo and Mendes would face each other at UFC 176, on August 2, in Los Angeles (USA), in a fight that would be a rematch of the fight in January 2012, when the Brazilian won by knockout in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

However, Aldo suffered an injury that forced him to withdraw from the fight, which left Mendes angry. The challenger showed a lot of irritation with the cancellation of the fight, saying that Aldo would be running away from the rematch and would not accept facing the champion again in Brazil.

In a letter sent to the “Combate” channel website, Aldo expressed himself upset with Mendes' accusations. “As for running away from him, then I assume he’s calling me weak. And this is something that comes out of the field of sport, which is MMA. That's why what I'm going to tell him is this: you don't know where I was born, what I went through to be alive today, where I came from. And at the very least, he doesn’t know anything about my MMA career,” he commented.

Aldo also mocked the “supplements” taken by the American, insinuating that his rival was taking illegal substances. “Regarding my injuries, maybe I have so many because I shouldn't be taking the same 'supplements' you are. I have injuries because I train a lot to beat you up, like I did last time, and I think you must remember and still have nightmares about that. I did all the necessary medical exams, but if you are now a doctor, I can send the exams for you to evaluate. Who knows, maybe you’ll prescribe me one of your supplements so I can get better faster?”, he provoked.

At the end of the letter, Aldo responded to Mendes' refusal to come to Brazil again to face the champion. “The one who only seems to want to fight at home is you, who doesn’t want to fight in Brazil at all. I was already injured before fighting in Brazil against Frankie Edgar and then I went to Las Vegas to fight. I already fought at your house [Sacramento] against your teacher [Urijah faber], I already fought at the Mark hominick with 55 thousand people, I've fought in Japan, in Europe. And you tell me you're going to be champion? A champion doesn’t choose an opponent or where he will fight, now I ask you who is the real FROUXO?”, he concluded.

I found out about the statements made by the Chad Mendes, and I have some doubts and questions for him. As for running away from him, then I assume he's calling me weak. And this is something that comes out of the field of sport, which is MMA. That's why what I'm going to tell him is this: you don't know where I was born, what I went through to be alive today, where I came from. And at the very least, he doesn't know anything about my MMA career. But that's okay, because I think you're at least a little confused. I saw a statement you said that you thought it was disrespectful for me to jump into the arms of my fans after knocking you out in Brazil. But it wasn't you who, a week before saying that you thought it was disrespectful, said: “Maybe this time I won't be the one running into the crowd like Aldo did in Rio?”

As for how long I will be out of action, the doctors will say. Those who get hit tend to run away so as not to get hit again, but there's no point running away because I'll come after you. As long as the grill doesn't close, you can say whatever you want, because after it closes you won't be able to open your mouth, so you can keep talking while you have a mouth. Are you in charge now where you are going to fight? If not, I don't think Dana White will like seeing someone make decisions for him, right?

I also heard that even for the interim belt you want to fight, it must be so you don't wait for me, but that doesn't make much sense because, for example, Pettis hasn't fought since August last year, due to injury and hasn't had a fight interim lightweight belt. Cain has been fighting since October, and will only fight in November, and as you know, I already fought this year, in February. And there are still many months left until December for the year to end and even then, it would be fewer months that both Pettis and Cain are inactive.

The only one who seems to want to fight at home is you, who doesn't want to fight in Brazil at all. I was already injured before fighting in Brazil against Frankie Edgar and then I went to Las Vegas to fight.
