UFC 174 was definitely not a good event for Ali Bagautinov. The Russian, who was defeated in the main fight of the attraction to Demetrious Johnson, valid for the flyweight belt, was caught in an anti-doping test carried out before the event, last month.

The fighter was caught with erythropoietin, one of the substances that was also present in the positive test. Chael Sonnen. It works to increase the production of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the muscles, thus increasing resistance and vigor.

The British Columbia Athletic Commission, which inspected the event, said Bagautinov could only compete at UFC 174 because results were not available before June 14, the date of the show.

Demetrious Johnson, winner of the fight by unanimous decision, commented on Bagautinov's doping case. “I am disappointed to learn that he tested positive for erythropoietin. It's sad news, but the moral of the story is that I proved that you don't have to cheat to be champion. I am proud to be a clean champion and I believe that talent will beat drugs every time, just like it happened last month”, he said, to the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

As a result, Bagautinov received a one-year suspension. The 29-year-old fighter has already had four fights in the UFC, with only one loss.
