Patricky Pitbull aims to return to Bellator by September

After being left out of the lightweight GP final, Brazilian fighter counts the minutes to return to the circular cage

Patricio pitbullThe Brazilian Patricky Pitbull Freire counts the minutes until he returns to Bellator's circular cage. The athlete from Rio Grande do Norte, who was scheduled to take part in the lightweight GP final against the Polish Marcin Held, was forced to fight, but is already aiming for a maximum deadline for his return: September. Despite his frustration, his brother Patrick Pitbull He doesn't hide his desire to compete again as soon as possible.

“It was very important to participate in Bellator 120, because I would be at the biggest event ever and I could be part of this history. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but I'm going to continue training hard and, when my hand is 100% back, I'll be the tournament champion”, he commented.

Fighting injured, however, is nothing new for the athlete. “Before the GP I only had an injured left hand, I knocked out David Rickels and, thank God, I didn't feel my hand. Then, in the second fight, against Derek Campos, I was afraid of hurting my left hand, so I used my right hand a little more and it ended up being worse than the other. Now the left hand is almost 100% and the right is 70%,” he said.

Having knocked out an opponent with an injured hand doesn't surprise the fighter. According to Patricky, the quality of the gloves that fighters use in Bellator is a differentiator for him to be successful in his fights. “The glove and bandage that the tournament's sports equipment supplier offers is something that, honestly, I have never seen. My training buddy, Ron Jason, fought for the UFC and fractured his left hand, requiring surgery. The quality of the equipment here is really different compared to other places” he explained.

With the departure of the tournament's creator, Bjorn Rebney, the fight enters Patricky Pitbull and Marcin Held has no forecast date. It is not yet known whether the winner will face the champion of the category, as there is uncertainty as to what the format of the competition will be. When announcing the hiring of Scott Coker, Viacom, the US telecommunications giant that has owned the organization since 2011, made it clear that the company must move away from the Grand Prix format.
