Weidman's trainer bets that his pupil will 'crush' Lyoto at UFC 175

The head coach of Chris Weidman, Ray Longo, sees his pupil fully prepared to carry out yet another successful title defense in the UFC. On July 5th, at UFC 175, Weidman makes the second defense of his title against another Brazilian, Lyoto Machida, after having defeated the former champion, Anderson Silva, on two occasions.

Longo predicts that Machida will not be successful in attracting Weidman to his game, and believes that the American is paying attention to the weapons that the “Dragon” will present for combat. “Machida is more relaxed and tries to counterattack. So, we planned everything for a fighter who plays on the counterattack. He is the champion and will beat anyone they put in front of him. I have complete confidence in Chris, no matter who he’s against,” commented Longo, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

The coach continued with his analysis of the fight: “Weidman will do what he always does. He will enter the Octagon, move forward and impose his game on Machida. He will make Machida play his game and probably end up crushing him.”

Longo also did not hesitate to point out what Machida's greatest weakness would be. “He has a weak chin. It's his main loophole. If Weidman hits him, he'll probably be pretty hurt. That's why he likes to dictate the pace of the fight. I don’t think he likes to be pressured”, he analyzed.

The fight between Weidman and Machida will be the main attraction of UFC 175, which will also feature another title fight: in the women's bantamweight category, Ronda Rousey puts his title on the line against Alexis Davis.
