In the past few weeks, Jon Jones was the target of harsh criticism from fans and some members of the specialized press. This is because the champion would be refusing to sign the contract for a rematch against Alexander Gustafson, scheduled for the end of August, and declared that he prefers to face Daniel Cormier instead of Swedish. Popular disapproval did not please Jones, who used his official profile on Instagram to release a short video in response, in which he demonstrates his irritation with the situation.
“Asking to face a wrestler undefeated Olympian in his career and former Strikeforce champion (Cormier) makes me a coward in some way? How about the fact that I already beat Gustafsson, whether you like how close it was or not. It’s my career, not yours!” said the champion. Shortly after publishing the video, Jones went back and deleted the replica, but the images had already spread across the network.
At 26, Jon Jones He has a record of 20 wins and only one loss, due to disqualification, as a professional. Light heavyweight champion since March 2011, “Bones” as he is known, is coming off a victory over the Brazilian Glover Teixeira on April 26th. In recent days, Jones has been against Ultimate's plans to promote a rematch between him and Alexander Gustafson, whom he beat in “Fight of the Year 2013” at UFC 165.
