The lightning defeat suffered by Stipe Miocic in the main fight of TUF Brasil 3 Final left deep marks on Fábio Maldonado. Last Saturday (31), the former boxer, who had never been knocked out in his professional MMA career, ended up defeated by the North American in just 35 seconds. Quite disappointed, Maldonado, who had already said he was “ashamed” by what happened immediately after the fight, once again regretted the way the fight went, but stated that there are no excuses for the setback.

“This was the worst possible outcome. I lost in the worst way possible. It was terrible. A horrible performance. I have no excuses. If I got tired after four or five rounds, I could blame it on the fact that I only trained for two weeks for this fight, but that wasn't the case. I couldn’t have performed worse”, stated the always sincere “Caipira de Aço”, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.

Fábio also evaluated his change in stance, from an athlete who generally waits to act on the counterattack to the fighter who took the initiative in the fight. “I should have listened to my corners better. They told me: 'Miocic exchanged punches with Roy Nelson, he will exchange with you'. But I don't know what I was thinking. There are no excuses. Miocic hit me with a very heavy right hand. I wanted to catch him right at the beginning of the fight, but I should have fought with more patience”, he analyzed.

Despite so many comments, if there is one thing that Maldonado does not regret, it is accepting the fight against Miocic. “I don’t regret taking this fight. I regret the way I fought. I could have done better, fought smarter. I don't know what I was thinking. I wanted to show that I was calm and he caught me,” he concluded. At 34 years old, Fábio Maldonado now has a professional record of 21 wins and seven losses.
