One of the main responsible for the success of Charles of the Bronx in MMA, Diego Lima used social media to vent about his pupil's next challenge. On his Instagram profile, the coach reassured fans about the rematch between the Brazilian and Islam makhachev for the UFC lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg.), at 'the opponent's home'. The clash takes place in October, in Abu Dhabi, a year after the São Paulo native's defeat against the Russian.
“It is with open arms that I make this post about the next fight, the retaking of the belt. Open arms to all those who support. (…) I know that many are sad or worried about the fact that this fight is in Abu Dhabi. You can be sure that Charles understands, but it's important that everyone knows that belts will only be contested in numbered 'UFC's' and, in Brazil, there won't be any more this year. (…) Charles fought on June 10th and didn’t stop training. So, we have more than four months to prepare”, wrote Diego, in Instagram.
Do Bronx's mentor then reinforced the decision to seek to regain the title in the United Arab Emirates.
“Charles really wanted this fight in Abu Dhabi, to get the belt back in the same place he couldn't go home with it. The same way he faced (Michael) Chandler, (Dustin) Poirier and (Justin) Gaethje in their homes and, after never winning in Canada, we went to fight (Beneil) Dariush and won. He (Do Bronx) commented that he preferred (fighting) in November or December, but that doesn't mean that the end of October was bad. Charles is made of overcoming, dedication and faith. You can be sure, when you close the octagon door, it could be anywhere in the world, it will be the same fight, focus, objective and result. Anyone who follows Charles' story knows that it was never easy. That's what made him who he is. Let's go with everything. Positive thinking always. You can be sure: Charles and our entire team are happy. It will be a lot of work and one reason only: to win. October 21st, at UFC 294, direct from Abu Dhabi. Get ready”, he concluded.
Lightweight champion between 2021 and 2022, Do Bronx, today, occupies the first position in the group ranking and comes from an overwhelming victory against Beneil Dariush. Division leader, Makhachev also achieved a positive result in the last match, when he overcame Alexander Volkanovsky in battle in UFC 284.
