Considered by many to be one of the best welterweights on the planet, North American Ben Askren did not reach an agreement with the UFC after his troubled departure from Bellator – where he was the champion of the 77 kg division – and ended up signing with the Asian event One FC. Last Saturday (31), Askren debuted in the new organization with a victory over Azerbaijani Bakhtiyar Abbasov. Excited by the triumph, “Funky”, as he is known, released the full video of the fight on his social networks.
However, Ben Askren's 13th career win, which kept him undefeated as a professional, didn't go so smoothly. Right at the beginning of the fight, which headlined the “One FC: Honor and Glory” card in Singapore, Abbasov took down the American, who is a wrestler of renown, and placed him in a difficult position. Despite the less than encouraging start, Askren reversed the deficit and managed the submission with a hand triangle.
