Brazilian CBJJE: Atos dominates at black belt

The Atos team has nothing to complain about participating in the last day of the CBJJE Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which took place this Sunday (May 24), in São Paulo. In the main category, black belt, the team of Ramon Lemos and André Galvão came out on top in four of the 10 categories, in addition to securing a runner-up finish. Among the individual highlights, Ricardo Abreu “Demente” won in the weight category and in the absolute and returned from the Mauro Pinheiro gym, at the Ibirapuera complex, with two gold medals on his chest. Check out how the last day of the event went:

Gallic
Bruno Malfacine continues his impressive trajectory. The Alliance representative, who in 2008 won the entity's World and Pan-American Championships, came out on top in the three fights he had. In the first fight, Bad Boy took the back and submitted Narciso Villaça (Checkmat) with a choke. In the second fight, Malfa applied an American foot lock to define the match. In the fight for gold, Bruno once again finished. Against Jonas Furtado (Nova União), he swept, took the back and applied a fair rear naked choke to celebrate.

Feather
The Atos party started at featherweight, with Guilherme Mendes. Used to performing among the featherweights, Gui submitted four opponents to climb to the highest place on the podium. In the first fight, he swept and passed guard and then finished with a choke. Then he swept twice and defined it again with a choke. In the semi-final, Mendes already had an advantage with two sweeps when his opponent was injured. The decisive match was against Sebastian Lalli (Checkmat), and Guilherme, after sweeping, ended his opponent's chances again with a choke.

Penalty
The Atos party continued with Bruno Frazatto. Coming off a victory at the CBJJ Brazilian Championship the previous week, the tough guy unified the title with the right to a rematch. In the initial fight, the triumph came with an armbar. Next, Frazatto faced Leandro Issa “Brodinho” (Liga JJ), winning 2-0 (scratch). The rematch was against Isaque Paiva (Libone), in the final, a fighter who had submitted Bruno in a recent competition and had been submitting everyone in the Brazilian Championship. Having started trailing by 2 points, the Atos representative fought back and turned around with a guard pass. To secure the gold, he even put his knee on his stomach and finished with 5-2 on the scoreboard.

Marginal
In this category it was the turn of Gilbert Burns, known as Durinho, to win the title for Atos. The black belt, who in 2008 was one of the highlights of the CBJJE World and Pan Championships, began his victorious campaign with a takedown and sweep. In the second fight, he applied an armbar from half guard to stay in the fight. After counting on the help of a teammate in the semi-final, which he opened, he used a takedown to beat Felipe Vidal (Checkmat) in the very final.

Midfielder
And the person who secured the last gold in the adult black competition was Claudio Calasans, who the previous year was CBJJE world champion. In the first fight, Calasans won with a choke and, in the second fight, after a draw, he passed the judge's decision. The place in the final came with a choke from behind. In the fight for gold, Calasans faced Claudio Cardoso (Gracie Barra). To decide quickly, he took guard and managed a tight choke, a blow that made his opponent give up.

Light Heavyweight
Atos' winning streak was broken in this category, however, it was close. The person responsible for ruining the party was the quarry Evandro Pena (Guigo). The fighter had already won two fights, one by forfeit and the other with a choke from the back. In the decision, against Vitor Toledo (Atos), he opened up 20 points with mounts and catches from behind, from where he clamped down and didn't leave until finishing with a choke.

PUBLICITY:

Heavy
The heavyweight decision was between Eduardo Toledo (Liga JJ) and Marcos Willian (Tozi). In a close fight, Willian started winning with an advantage from half guard, but Eduardo turned the score around, with two advantages. In total, the champion had three fights. In the first appearance the triumph was 4-0, while in the second he beat the tough Marcelo Coppa (Lotus) 4-2.

Super heavyweight
In the super heavyweight category, Ricardo Abreu (Robson Moura), known as Demented, appeared on the scene, who would later also win in the absolute. After beating two opponents with chokeholds, Demente faced Filippe Mattos (Liboni) in the category decision. This time the move used to finish was an armbar.

Very heavy
The one who came out on top was Claudio Godoy (Center Fight). In the first fight, the fighter submitted. In the final, against Gustavo Adolfo (Alliance), he used all his knowledge in the stand-up fight. He took three takedowns and then passed the guard to make the score 12-0.

PUBLICITY:

Absolute
In the absolute, Ricardo Abreu “Demente” came with everything again. Before the decision, Robson Moura's pupil submitted three opponents. The moves used were two armbars and a choke, which made the opponent still standing. In the final, he faced fellow finisher Isaque Paiva, who had been runner-up among the featherweights and had won with a triangle in the semifinals. Isaque tried to maintain his performance with a rotating choke, but Demente freed himself from the attack, passed his guard three times and once again used a tight armbar to win the second gold medal of the day.

Absolute Feminine
The category final was between Danielle Silva (Leão Dourado) and Silvana Abreu (Manimal). Danielle opened the scoring with a takedown. Silvana tried to return the point, in a stand-up fight, but the victory went to the Leão Dourado athlete. Before, Danielle had beaten an opponent.
