The news that Matt Brown is just one victory away from fighting for the belt of the UFC welterweight did not please the Hector Lombard. The Cuban, staunch critic of “Immortal”, states that the North American cartel does not live up to its reputation.
Brown is on a streak of seven wins within the UFC, six of which were by knockout or technical knockout. This placed the veteran in fifth place in the rankings, immediately ahead of Lombard.
“I'm disappointed with the reputation Matt Brown has. He's never faced top 10 fighters. I'd like to fight this guy one day to prove my point. I don't think Brown deserves all of this. He’s just an average fighter,” said Lombard, in an interview with the Submission Radio podcast.
Amidst the criticism, it was even up to Erick silva, Brown's last opponent. "Who is it Erick silva? This is ridiculous. When you face a guy like Erick silva, anyone can look good. I would drum Erick silva even easier”, he declared.
Lombard compared Brown to his next opponent, Dong Hyun Kim, whom he considers to be “four times better” than the American. “Kim beat Matt Brown [in 2008] and is behind. He also won Erick silva, in Brazil. How should he feel? How should I feel, when I beat two former Strikeforce champions [Jake Shields and Nate Marquardt]? It doesn’t make sense,” he added.
Lombard, sixth in the welterweight rankings, and Kim, ninth, will face each other on August 23, in Macau.
