At least for the next few months, the path for the light heavyweight division appears to be already set. UFC president Dana White has already assured that the next title fight will feature a rematch between the champion Jon Jones and the Swede Alexander Gutsafsson, in the reissue of “Fight of the Year 2013”, and now it has been decided that the winner of the fight between Dan Henderson e Daniel Cormier, which takes place next Saturday (24) at UFC 173, will accredit the next challenger for the title. At least that's what Henderson himself assured.
“It’s going to be a great fight against Cormier. The winner will guarantee a shot at the title. And this is the main reason why I accepted this fight. It was the quickest way to get back into position to get a shot at the belt. Dana White said: 'The winner will fight for the belt'. And I’m in, for sure,” said Hendo, in an interview with the channel on YouTube from its supplementation sponsor “Revlabs”.
The veteran also gave his opinion on how he believes the fight against Cormier will go. “He has a style very similar to mine, it will be an interesting fight. We both hit hard, we both came from wrestling American elite. But he's not your typical fighter. freestyle (Olympic fighting style), he likes to play a little tighter. The main key for both of us is not to fall for each other. I’m fine with him connecting a few more punches, as long as I land the hard ones,” he said.
This Saturday (24), Dan Henderson face the undefeated Daniel Cormier in the co-main fight of UFC 173, in Las Vegas (USA). In the main fight of the night, the Brazilian Renan Barao puts the bantamweight belt on the line against North American challenger TJ Dillashaw. In the fight that closes the preliminary card, the TUF Brasil 1 participant Francisco Massaranduba face the winner of TUF 15 Michael chiesa.
