Alleged boycott of Anderson Silva is denied behind the scenes at Globo

Last weekend, “ Veja ” magazine columnist Lauro Jardim announced in his “Radar Online” column that the former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was the target of a boycott by TV Globo, the largest television network in Brazil. According to the column, which did not specify the reasons for the sanction, there was an express order from the network's top management to prevent Spider's appearances on the house's programs, which would even have led to the removal of an article involving the fighter from the last show's “Fantástico”. Sunday (18). The order to boycott Anderson, however, was denied behind the scenes at the Rio broadcaster, according to the report. SUPER FIGHTS together with sources close to the General Directorate of Journalism and Sport (DGJE).

According to the information obtained by our report, the article about Anderson Silva would not have been shown on Fantástico due to an internal priority determination for the World Cup in Brazil, which starts on June 12th and has Globo as the official broadcaster. A few months ago, Fantástico had been the medium chosen by Anderson for his first interview after the fracture suffered in the rematch against Chris Weidman, in December last year. A few weeks after the incident, Spider opened the doors of his home in Los Angeles (USA) to journalist Renata Ceribelli and spoke for the first time about the injury and his career.

At 39, Anderson Silva has a record of 33 wins and six losses. The Brazilian was middleweight champion between October 2006 and July 2013, when he was defeated by Chris Weidman. In the rematch against the executioner, Anderson fractured his left leg in the second round. In the process of recovery since then, Spider returned to training without restrictions just four months after the injury. Given his complete rehabilitation, UFC president Dana White expressed his desire to see the former champion back in the Octagon in 2014, but Anderson himself stated that he only intends to fight again in 2015.
