Former light heavyweight champion Mauritius Shogun, one of the main Brazilian names in MMA, went through moments of terror at the beginning of this month. According to Eduardo Alonso, Shogun's manager, the athlete was robbed by four men armed with rifles, after his car stopped on the Linha Vermelha (expressway), in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).

“We were in Rio de Janeiro with Demian (Maia) representing a sponsor and we went to dinner with Shogun. At the end of the night, he dropped us off at our hotel, in Barra da Tijuca, and went to Niterói, where he was staying. On this journey, driving a friend's car on the Red Line, he was blocked by a car, four individuals armed with rifles got out and stole his friend's car, stole the Shogun's t-shirt, stole the money, documents and said: 'I I know who you are, you're a fighter, don't try anything!'. How are you going to try? It was a regrettable situation”, said Eduardo, in an interview with the “PVT” website.

According to Eduardo, the situation got even worse, as Shogun was left shirtless and barefoot by the robbers and had to walk to the police station closest to the scene of the crime. “The guys took everything, they even took his shirt. He was barefoot, in the middle of the Red Line, in the middle of the night and no one stopped. Imagine a guy that size hitchhiking shirtless and barefoot. He had to walk about two kilometers, barefoot, in the early hours of the morning, until he reached a police station to file a police report and call someone,” he reported.

The Brazilian, champion of the PRIDE middleweight GP and former UFC light heavyweight champion, is coming off a defeat to Dan Henderson at UFC in Natal (RN). In the fight, Shogun fractured his nose and recently underwent surgery at the scene. According to Eduardo Alonso, there is still no estimate of when the Curitiba native will return to the Octagon. “We are not sure when Maurício will be released to fight. So let’s wait and see if something interesting happens,” he concluded.
