Wineland suffers broken jaw against Johnny Eduardo and undergoes surgery

North American said he will have to reevaluate his career after knockout and says he will have to be away for six weeks

The defeat suffered by Johnny Eduardo at UFC Fight Night 40 it was costly for Eddie Wineland. In addition to being knocked out in a fight in which he was a huge favorite, the American left the fight with a fractured jaw, which forced him to undergo surgery last Wednesday (14).

The fighter stated, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”, that his doctors asked him to reevaluate his career from now on. “I'm not sure it's worth the risk. I have a lot to deal with right now,” he said.

Wineland said he will need to be out of action for six weeks, although the period was up to ten months the last time he suffered a similar injury. “It was the most miserable moment of my life. I didn’t want to have to go through that again”, he lamented.

With the result, Wineland fell to fifth place in the ranking of roosters, while Eduardo started to appear on the list – he is the 12th best placed. The champion is another Brazilian, Renan Barao.
