Matt Brown earns his nickname 'Immortal', recovers and runs over Erick Silva

Brazilian fighter was close to ending the fight in the first round, but ended up suffering harsh punishment from his rival until he was knocked out

Matt BrownFew times in the history of the UFC has a fighter earned his nickname as much as Matt Brown. The “Immortal”, as he is known, suffered a harsh punishment from the Brazilian Erick silva in the first round and came close to losing the fight on a few occasions, but managed to survive in a sensational way, returned to the fight and inflicted harsh punishment on the athlete from Espírito Santo until winning by technical knockout in the third round. The fight was the main attraction of UFC Fight Night 40, an event held this Saturday night (10), in Cincinnati, in the United States.

The fight

One of the best fights of 2014 started hot from the first seconds. Erick soon launched a kick at Brown's waist, which he felt. The man from Espírito Santo took advantage of the moment, hit his rival in the ribs once again and went after the North American in the ground fight. From then on, the Brazilian threw several punches at Matt, got to his back and was close to finishing the fight with a rear naked choke. But in a very valiant way Brown managed to defend himself.

After escaping the choke on two occasions, the “Imortal” lived up to his nickname, managed to get up and return to the fight in a sensational way. During the exchange, Brown closed the distance and unleashed an arsenal of blows against Erick. The North American applied punches, kicks, elbows and knees in the exchange against Silva, who was still standing under the harsh punishment.

In the second round, Brown maintained the overwhelming pace at the end of the previous round. He didn't want to waste time studying and soon closed the distance to punish the Brazilian again. Erick kicked the American in the ribs again, who felt the blow again, but it didn't take away his impetuosity.

Already tired, Erick silva struggled to stay in the fight, while Matt Brown continued combining powerful attacks against the Espírito Santo. After being knocked down, the Brazilian suffered a cut on his forehead after several elbows. No longer able to stay in the fight, he turned sideways on the ground and referee Herb Dean ended the fight, declaring a technical knockout.

Besides Erick silva, the UFC Fight Night 40 fight program featured three more Brazilians in the preliminary cardJohnny Eduardo surprised the favorite Eddie Wineland with a knockout in the first round, but Rafael Sapo and Yan Cabral were beaten in the judges' decision by Ed Herman and Zak Cummings, respectively (read the full article here).
