The duel against Donald Cerrone was considered the gateway to the top-10 from light weights to Brazilian Edson Barboza. However, on the main card of UFC on FOX 11, this Saturday (19), in Orlando (USA), the Brazilian ended up surprised by the North American and suffered his second defeat in his career.

After the victory, Cerrone denied that he had avoided the fight on his feet and suggested that the fact that he finished Barboza was only due to the circumstances of the fight. “I wanted to stay in the fight and give the fans what they wanted, but these things happen”, said the “Cowboy”, in an interview with Joe Rogan, still in the octagon.

The fight between Barboza and Cerrone got off to a hot start, with the American surprising and avoiding the fight on the feet. Sensing the good moment, the Brazilian attacked his opponent and connected good blows, varying the angles of attack.

However, with just over a minute left in the first half, just when Edson was better, Cerrone managed to land a great jab, which destabilized the Brazilian, and opened the way to go to the back and finish the fight with a rear naked choke. .

Carmouche presses, but Miesha Tate wins his first UFC victory

The threat of dismissal was already beginning to haunt the former champion of the now defunct Strikeforce Miesha Tate, who had lost his two fights since debuting in Ultimate. This Saturday, however, Miesha achieved her first triumph in the octagon, defeating former title challenger Liz Carmouche.

In the first round, the biggest ghost of the defeat to Ronda Rousey in December it hit again Miesha Tate: the falls. Carmouche managed to take her opponent to the ground with ease and prevailed in the partial. After a second round of little movement, the pair returned with more energy for the final round.

Towards the end of the fight, the pair had a very emotional moment, when Miesha spent a few minutes trying to adjust a rear naked choke, but ended up running into her opponent's precise defense. At the end of the confrontation, Tate was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges.

With a takedown game up to date, Yoel romero exceeds Brad Tavares

Undefeated since he debuted in Ultimate, the Cuban Yoel romero entered the octagon in Orlando with the responsibility of being one of the most promising middleweights in the division in the opinion of none other than president Dana White. And Romero did not disappoint in front of Brad Tavares.

The Australian-based Cuban dominated his opponent in the first round, both in the stand-up and grappling fights. In the second half, despite instructions from his corner, Tavares suffered another fall from Romero and continued to get the worst of the fight on his feet, having suffered a hard elbow that caused profuse bleeding from his head.

In the final part, Yoel romero slows down the pace, but keeps the fight under his control. Using his experience in Olympic wrestling, the Cuban knew how to pace the fight and guarantee takedowns at crucial moments to inhibit Tavares' attempted reaction. In the end, Romero was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges.
