Brazil has a new champion in Bellator. The Goiano Douglas lima took no notice of Rick Hawn, knocked out the American in the second round and won the welterweight title. The fight was the main attraction of Bellator 121, an event held on Friday night (18), in Iowa, in the United States. With the achievement, Douglas joins Dudu Dantas, bantamweight champion, like Tupiniquin athletes holding the show belt.
The fight
The title fight between Douglas lima and Rick Hawn started studied. The athletes exchanged few blows in the initial moments, trying to find the best distance.
The North American, with smaller wingspan, waited for the Brazilian's input to respond with straight blows. Douglas was already trying kicks, at the waist line, without much effectiveness. But from the middle of the stage, Douglas began to release his right leg on his rival's calf, who ended up falling on three occasions. He was close to ending the contest in the final seconds, when he took advantage of Hawn's fall and threw several blows on top.
At the beginning of the second half, history repeated itself. Douglas abused low kicks and Hawn could barely stay upright. After falling for the third time in the second round, Rick Hawn gave up the fight and Douglas lima won the title of the event.
Pitbull shines in Brazilian night
Bellator 117 was 100% Brazilian. In addition to achieving Douglas lima who also shone was Patrick Pitbull. Facing Derik Campos, in a fight valid for the semifinals of the lightweight GP, the native of Rio Grande do Norte had a bad start, where the North American was better. But in the second half Patricky Pitbull landed a good jab that paved the way for a great sequence of blows until the technical knockout. With the result, Pitbull faces Marcin Held, who this night passed Derek Anderson
