Last year, UFC president Dana White said that the highest amount ever paid by the organization to an athlete was US$5 million (around R$11,15 million at current prices), but he did not identify the fighter in question. The information only remained confidential until this week, when the official commentator of Ultimate Joe Rogan, on his program “Joe Rogan Experience”, revealed that it was the Canadian Georges St Pierre who received the millionaire payment.
“When you look at the pay, there is a pay that is listed as far as the purse you receive after the fight. This does not take into account a number of factors. There are a lot of things they keep private. Not only this amount (of the scholarship) is paid. Some people are. But when a guy is selling tickets, a big-name fighter, there are a lot of factors there. Incentives, participation in sales of pay-per-view. Georges St Pierre he even earned $5 million per fight,” said Rogan in conversation with the UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub on salaries paid by the organization.
According to Rogan, GSP was one of the fighters who most increased his wealth in the octagon. “He made a lot of money! He has sponsors, like Gatorade, and all these other sources of revenue. Which are successively renewed. This made Georges St Pierre a guy who made a lot of money fighting,” he said. At 32 years old, and according to Joe Rogan with a gigantic bank account, St. Pierre has a record of 25 wins and just two losses. The former welterweight champion has been away from MMA for an indefinite period of time since the end of 2013, shortly after winning his ninth consecutive title defense.
