Recently released from the UFC, Jake Shields he was unemployed for a short time. According to the North American website “Bleacher Report”, the fighter is the new signing of the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) event.
Shields was fired from Ultimate following his loss to Hector Lombard, last month. This ended a period of eight fights in three years for the fighter in the organization, during which he was able to challenge for the welterweight belt against Georges St Pierre.
Thus, Shields joins fighters like Rousimar Toquinho, Jon Fitch and Melvin Guillard, who also signed with WSOF shortly after the UFC was fired. “I'm very excited to fight in WSOF. They have one of the best, if not the best, welterweight division in the world. I'm looking forward to facing great fighters like Jon Fitch, Rousimar Palhares, Josh Burkman, Gerald Harris, among others. I also believe that, as I will be in an environment that welcomes fighters, this will allow me to give my maximum performance”, said the fighter, who still doesn't know when he will be able to make his debut at the event.
The current WSOF welterweight champion is Rousimar Toquinho, which submitted Steve Carl in March.
