Vitaly Minakov has successfully defended the Bellator heavyweight belt. In action in the 115th edition of the show, the Russian had a 100% European duel against former UFC athlete Cheick Kongo and won the clash via unanimous decision from the judges.
The first round was marked by apprehension, with referee Herb Dean deducting a point from the champion for low blows that caused the fight to stop. The Frenchman was also warned for grabbing his opponent's shorts. Despite the troubled start, Minakov was superior in the next four rounds and the infraction led to him losing the belt.
