Vinny Magalhães will not be able to make his debut for Titan FC, which would be on April 25th, in the United States. The Brazilian, who was due to face another former UFC athlete, Jason Brilz, was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a bacterial infection, which left him hospitalized.

Magalhães contracted a staphylococcal infection, which is relatively common during fights, as the gym environment encourages the proliferation of the bacteria. In recent years, some athletes have suffered from the same infection, such as Rodrigo Minotauro, Anthony Pettis, Mark Hunt, Kevin Randleman and Muhammed “King mo” Lawal – the latter stated that he was at risk of death from the disease.

Magalhães had two stints in the UFC. In the first of them, in 2008, he arrived with morale, competing in the final of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter. However, the Brazilian was knocked out by Ryan bader, who became champion. In the next fight, he lost to Eliot Marshall, being released from the organization.

Outside the UFC, Magalhães retraced his winning streak, winning five straight victories, which gave him a new opportunity in the UFC. In his first fight, he submitted Igor Pokrajac with an armbar, but in the following fights, he lost to Phil Davis and Anthony Perosh, which earned him another dismissal.

Titan FC has not yet commented on what happened. However, Brilz was kept at the event, and the organization is looking for a replacement to face him.
