Despite having defeated Manny Gamburyan at UFC 168, in December 2013, Dennis Siver left the event with a damaged image. This is because the German was caught in the anti-doping test with the substance human chorionic gonadotropin, prohibited by regulation.
Even though the organization maintained the victory on its record, Siver felt the need to clarify what had happened. He sent a text to the German website “GroundAndPound” explaining his version of the facts.
“Last year, my coach Niko Sulenta was diagnosed with severe cancer, which meant I had to prepare alone for a UFC fight for the first time, without being able to count on his care and advice. Niko has always been essential in my weight loss process,” explained Siver.
“So before UFC 168, I had to hire a personal trainer and a nutritionist to help me lose weight. The nutritionist recommended me a new diet from the United States, which was used successfully by stars. I then asked if I, as a professional athlete, could safely use this supplement. He told me yes. So, I made the fatal mistake of not checking with the UFC whether the substances in this supplement could affect the exams”, lamented the fighter.
“I do not want to blame anyone for this outcome, and I take full responsibility for my negligent behavior. But I have always stayed away from any kind of doping. In my 16 previous UFC fights, not even a small substance was detected. This makes the events even more disappointing and shocking for me and my team”, he concluded.
