The victory achieved over Mauritius Shogun at UFC Fight Night 38, in Natal, left Dan Henderson excited. Although the 43-year-old athlete have demonstrated an intention to rest for a longer period between fights, he wants to seize the chance to avenge one of his most recent UFC losses.
Lyoto Machida would face the middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, at UFC 173, on May 24th. However, the belt holder suffered a minor knee injury, which caused the fight to be postponed until UFC 175, in July. On his Twitter, Henderson, however, made himself available to face Machida in two months if Weidman needs to be away for a longer period.

Henderson refers to what happened in 2012, when he would face the light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. However, he was injured, which led to Lyoto Machida the opportunity to replace it. Machida refused to accept the fight at short notice, and Vitor belfort He faced the champion, losing by submission.
If the fight goes ahead, it would be a rematch between Henderson and Machida. The two faced each other in February 2013, with the Brazilian winning a split decision from the judges after three tight rounds.
