André Sergipano comes into action in UFC Las Vegas 70 this Saturday (25) and has the mission of going through Brendan allen looking to get closer to the top in the middleweight division (up to 83,9kg.). Birthday boy of the month, as he turned 33 on the 17th, the Brazilian cited a strategy for the 'gift' to come with possible bonuses for his performance on the show.

“I trained a lot, I had an excellent camp. In fact, I spent my birthday away from my wife and daughters. For everything I gave up, the greatest gift would be victory on Saturday. The bonus would be nice too. I want to go home and celebrate twice in Montes Claro”, said Sergipano.

A jiu-jitsu specialist, Sergipano has achieved three submissions in his five Ultimate victories. The Minas Gerais native, however, believes that he has improved on his feet and feels that the time may have come to deliver a knockout. Tenth in the middleweight rankings, he also understands that he needs to overcome opponents who are not yet ranked to have the opportunity to reach the top of the division.

“The victory is important, but it is a feeling (of a knockout) that is visible in each fight. I believe it can happen in this fight. (…), we always want to speed up the process to gain media and earn better. But sometimes, some situations happen in the organization where we have no choice. You look, everyone is struggling, injured and has just finished fighting. And I have to fight and work. I can't stay still for a year. The opportunity arose to face Brendan (Allen), who is a tough guy and has a lot of fights in the organization”, analyzed the Minas Gerais native.

Strategy

Although he recognizes the possibility of a standing knockout, André offered another strategy for the fight with Allen. Respectful of his rival, he highlights the possible advantage in terms of wingspan to look for spaces and then put the fight on the ground.

“I always really defend my roots, which is jiu-jitsu. We're going to look for the exchange. In theory, we have control over the distance and greater wingspan. Let's work on forcing him to get out of his comfort zone and, at the right opportunity, take him down and look for the submission. He is a high-level grappler and experienced striker, but we have to trust in the work of my team to come out with a big victory on the 25th,” he stated.

The owner of the moment

Music can rock the life of a fighter, who is motivated for big battles inside and outside the Octagon. With André Sergipano is no different. The Brazilian revealed that he is a fan of Eminem and declared that he is inspired by the song 'Lose Yourself', by the rapper, who sends a message about seizing your chance and showing that you are the owner of the moment.

“It’s the opportunity I have to show my work. I have to grab all my strength and make all the sacrifices worth it to emerge victorious. I’ve been listening to this song for many years, so I think it’s my time to take advantage of the opportunities and put on a great show,” he concluded.
