According to Spider, if the athlete needs treatment it is because he is too old to fight

The controversy surrounding Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT), which recently had its use banned by the Nevada Athletic Commission and the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission, has even extended to those who are temporarily away from the sport. This Thursday (20), during an event held by one of his sponsors in São Paulo (SP), the former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who is currently recovering from the fracture he suffered in his left leg in December last year, condemned the practice of hormone replacement when asked about the relationship between his compatriot's good times Vitor belfort and the TRT.

“You need to ask him that. My opinion about TRT is that if you need to replace it, it's because you're too old to do the type of sport you're doing. It’s a lot about each person, each athlete. I think it's not fair to athletes who don't take hormone replacement therapy to fight against an athlete who takes hormone replacement therapy. This is something that needs to be questioned”, said Spider, in an interview given to the “Combate” channel website.

On February 27th, the Nevada Athletic Commission, which regulates fights held in Las Vegas, announced the decision to eliminate exemptions for the use of TRT. As a consequence of the new regulation, Brazilians Vitor belfort ended up being forced to leave the fight against Chris Weidman for the middleweight belt in May, given that there would not be time for him to adapt to the new determination. Former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida was chosen by the UFC to replace Belfort in the confrontation. Shortly after Nevada's decision, the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission followed the decision and applied the rule to events held in Brazil.
