After making public your challenge to Robert whittaker for a middleweight clash (up to 83,9kg.), Khamzat Shimaev did not completely rule out the 77,1kg division. In an interview with 'Red Corner MMA', the Swede reinforced his desire to compete for his first Ultimate title against the winner of the trilogy between Leon edwards e Kamaru Usman, which takes place on March 18.
“I thought I would face Colby covington, but we have been waiting for six months. It seems he is not willing. (…) I think I'll face the winner of Usman against Edwards. Whoever wins will face me,” declared Chimaev.
Betting on the future of Ultimate, Khamzat has not performed since the victory over Kevin holland, UFC 279. On that occasion, the athlete had his rival changed at the last minute after grossly failing to cut weight for the clash against Nate diaz.
Today, Chimaev occupies third place in the ranking led by Edwards. The athlete assumed a prominent position in the group after overcoming Gilbert Durinho in epic battle in the 2022 season.
