After failing twice to make weight for his fight against Rick Story at UFC 171, this Friday (14), Kelvin Gastelum It had already been reported that one of the dropouts would lose 20% of their purse in the event – alongside the Brazilian Reneé Forte. But a “miraculous” event saved the TUF 17 champion and he finally reached the weight limit, with just five minutes left before the deadline.
According to his manager Shane Baldwin, in a conversation with journalist Ariel Helwani, Gastelum went to the bathroom and pulled a “miracle number two” out of his hat, so to speak. Just in time, with a few grams less, Kelvin arrived at the scale and weighed in – ending one of the busiest nights in recent UFC weigh-in history.
Now, finally, the results of the official UFC 171 weigh-in are complete, having been Reneé Forte the only one to not reach the weight – even with the deadline for new attempts.
