Jiu-jitsu is on the rise in MMA in 2023. Even with few events so far, fans of mixed martial arts were able to witness some remarkable demonstrations of the gentle art in the Ultimate Octagon in January. The SUPER LUTAS team met to choose the best submissions of the first month of the year, which featured three Brazilian athletes as protagonists. Let's go to the list:
3) Allan Puro Osso x Carlos Hernandez – UFC Las Vegas 67
First Brazilian to enter the octagon in 203, Allan Puro Osso showed that jiu-jitsu is not exclusive to Charles of the Bronx at Chute Boxe Diego Lima. In a movement similar to that used by the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) in his title defense against Dustin poirier, flyweight (up to 56,7kg) backpacked Carlos Hernandez and submitted his rival with a relentless rear naked choke in the first round.
2) Gilbert Durinho x Neil Magny – UFC 283
In one of the most anticipated duels in the UFC 283, an event that marked the organization’s return to Rio de Janeiro, Gilbert Durinho he returned to his roots and showed why he has one of the most feared solo games in the organization. The Brazilian gave no chance to Neil Magny and finished the veteran with a katagatame from half guard also in the first round.
